Pioneering rapper Melle Mel, of Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five fame, belted out the classic hit “The Message” at the second annual Tompkins Scare Park on Saturday. The all-day event in Tompkins Square Park featured another message — of healthy snacks and creativity instead of candy for Halloween. A healthier horror show
Tompkins Square Park became Tompkins Scare Park last Saturday during an all-day Halloween event. The festival brought together East Village artists, children and teens, in the words of its organizers, “to reinvent Halloween with style, with a theme of creativity over candy.”

Casey had the idea for some time to work on a combination children's book/CD, but it wasn't until a chance meeting on a train that she came into contact with Melle Mel.
